Brindavan Gardens & KRS Dam
A terraced, musical-fountain garden laid out beside the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam across the Kaveri — one of early twentieth-century India's landmark irrigation projects, engineered under Diwan M. Visvesvaraya.
The Krishna Raja Sagara Dam, completed in 1932 under the Mysore Kingdom’s celebrated engineer-Diwan Sir M. Visvesvaraya, was among the largest reservoirs in Asia at the time of its construction and remains central to irrigation and drinking water supply across the Mandya and Mysuru region. It was named for Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, during whose reign it was built.
Immediately below the dam, the Brindavan Gardens were laid out in a formal, terraced Mughal-garden style, with stepped lawns, fountains and a well-known illuminated musical fountain show added later — turning a piece of hydraulic infrastructure into one of Karnataka’s most visited public gardens.
Getting there: The dam and gardens sit beside the Mysuru–Bengaluru highway near Srirangapatna, about 19 km from Mysuru city. The post office serves the dam colony immediately adjoining the site.
