Raja's Seat
A garden viewpoint on Madikeri's western ridge, said to be where the Kodava kings once watched the sun set over the Western Ghats — now the town's best-known sunset spot.
Raja’s Seat sits on a ridge at the western edge of Madikeri, landscaped as a garden pavilion from where the rulers of Kodagu are said to have watched the sunset over the Western Ghats. Musical fountains and terraced gardens were added later, but the draw remains the same: a wide, layered view of forested hills that turns gold at dusk, making it Madikeri’s most visited viewpoint today.
Getting there: Raja’s Seat is about 1 km from Madikeri’s town centre and the Head Post Office, an easy walk or short auto ride from most lodging in town.
