Yadagiri Fort
A hill fort above Yadgir town in the Krishna–Bhima river tract, passed between Bahmani, Bijapur and Hyderabad Nizam rule — the namesake landmark of one of Karnataka's most recently carved-out districts.
Yadagiri Fort stands on a rocky rise above Yadgir town, in the Krishna–Bhima river tract of what was historically part of the Hyderabad-Karnataka (now Kalyana Karnataka) region. Like much of this belt, it passed through Bahmani and then Bijapur Adil Shahi control before eventually coming under the Nizams of Hyderabad, whose long administration shaped the region’s distinct historical trajectory compared to the rest of princely Mysore.
Yadgir itself became a separate district only in 2010, carved out of Gulbarga (Kalaburagi), and the fort remains the town’s most visible link to its pre-modern past amid a region still often defined more by its twentieth-century integration story than by its monuments.
Getting there: Yadgir town lies on the Kalaburagi–Raichur road and rail corridor; the fort rises just north of the town centre, near the post office.
